Here are my paintings of local wildlife in Singapore.
Waiting and watching
Quieting of heart and mind
To hear the silence that speaks
Reward for the patient
The magical moment occurs
Dappled light and sure-footed deer,
Moving across your path
Blink and you would have missed it
Too busy and you would have overlooked it

Macaques are commonly sighted in the central water catchment areas of Singapore. I encountered this family group at MacRitchie Reservoir. I just love the way these macaques casually formed a family huddle, embracing each other with baby in the center. Each member looking out for the youngest and weakest. What a lovely picture of family and protection.

The Raffles’ banded langur looks on the uncertain future with hopeful eyes. What will tomorrow bring? Its aspirations are humble — to continue to live and have a home here in Singapore.

Life, fragile and precious, treasured and protected. A new generation carries the promise of a future for the Raffles’ banded langurs here in Singapore. Will this promise be fulfilled? Can we make space for them here to continue to live and have a home?

These terrapins were very bold and came towards us when we were feeding fish at the botanical gardens. Clambering over each other to try to get at the food. I was amused at their antics and decided to dedicate a series of painting to try to capture their expressions.

I had the privilege of seeing one of these elusive creatures at Lower Pierce reservoir. They are timid and quick to bolt at the slightest noise. Patience rewards the quiet and observant. Painted with permission referencing a photo taken by Steven Cheong.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I was amazed by a photograph taken of one of our local Sungei Buloh saltwater crocodiles. The emerald green of its eye stood out against its alien contours, a gem that gleamed in a landscape of browns, blacks and greys.
